Stephen Bamford FCSI (Retired) – Senior Board Advisor

Stephen is a member of the FMG

He spent most of his early career in the investment industry, having worked in senior positions at National Westminster Unit Trusts and Aetna Life & Casualty Inc, before founding GFM International Investors Ltd for Metropolitan Life of America. During his career he has won three public Investment awards and was invited to become a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (FCSI).

Since 2001, he has been involved in development capital for private businesses. He has held Non-Executive Directorships at Fitness First plc, which is now one of the largest Health & Fitness businesses in the world and Ximax Environmental Solutions, who created the product “Xziox”, which is recognised as outstanding in the creation of bacteria free drinking water and an outstanding treatment for polluted wastewater.

He joined the Board of Directors of the SulNOx Group in 2013, as a founding partner, and became the first Chairman of the company until the listing in 2019. After 50 years in the City of London, he retired from Corporate Life and the SulNOx Group on June 1st, 2020.

During his time at the SulNOx Group, he created the strategy that led to the Nouryon contract that meant that SulNOx has never had chemical production risks and the listing was made achievable by this event. During the Covid Pandemic, he raised sufficient funds to see the company through the cashflow crisis that damaged so many businesses during that time. Today, the SulNOx Group is seen as a top class “Green Technology” stock and Mr Bamford still owns over 7% of the company’s shares.
